Davayat Castle
A beautiful drive lined with horse chestnut-trees leads to this Louis XIIIth manor-house, built by Blaise Roze, a rich nobleman from Riom. Two imposing sculptured lions guard the main courtyard. Park covering 5 hectares comprising a french-style garden designed by a pupil of Le Nôtre's.
Description
The Chateau of Davayat was designed by a pupil of Le Nôtre's. A small wing, added later in the XVIIIth century, is decorated by a charming terrace supported by a colonnade made of Volvic stone. When visiting the appartments you will discover a succession of rooms displaying paintings, furniture, decorative objetcs and costumes. There is an interesting collection of fans, and a collection of Tanagra figurines (IVth century B.C.).
