Itinerant Hiking
Ah, walking tours… Preparing for a hike is the beginning of your adventure.😍
Spend your days walking, reflecting, listening to the sounds of nature, feeling the weight of your backpack on the climbs, stopping in a village to refill your water bottle, and meeting people along the way… Can you picture yourself there already?
In Combrailles Auvergne, we have three signposted circuits, each offering a unique setting.
Etangs des Combrailles
Starting from Charensat, the 41km Combrailles Lakes Hike typically takes 3 days and offers a peaceful walk through a wild landscape dotted with lakes.
Boucle du Pays de Menat
Starting from Servant, the Boucle du Pays de Menat is a 6-day hike that showcases the magnificent landscapes of the Sioule gorges, its rich architectural heritage, and the surrounding countryside, with volcanoes as a backdrop. This 124 km hike is divided into 6 stages, each with an average elevation gain of 200 to 300 metres.
Boucle des Dômes
The Boucle des Dômes runs along the edge of the Combrailles and partly overlaps with it. This magnificent 62km hike offers the opportunity to discover the Chaîne des Puys, a UNESCO World Heritage site, by crossing through part of it and admiring it from the outside
There are restrictions in the Chaîne des Puys, including a ban on bivouacking on the slopes or summits of the volcanoes, as well as restrictions concerning pastures and plants.
For more details, refer to the guidelines for bivouacking in the Chaîne des Puys.
But itinerant hiking also means discovering some magnificent long-distance trails, thanks to the GR routes.
